Masterclass: Heritage – beyond ‘in-keeping’
Should we be aiming to reflect vernacular styles and materials, boldly innovating, or something in between? Through the live study of a sensitively designed project, an activity and expansive discussion, we will explore the best strategies for designing in and around our heritage, considering how to improve the process and outcome. We will also consider how to evaluate proposals in the existing policy context.
This masterclass will begin with an hour and a half walking tour of King’s School, Canterbury, guided by the architects, Walters + Cohen. Following this tour the group will make their way to the Dean John Simpson room at Canterbury Cathedral Lodge with long views of the surrounding setting, where the conversation will continue with Louise Goodison, and Ana Moldavsky, guided by an informal activity to get everyone talking.
Delivered by Sogand Babol, Design Advisor, Design South East
