Introduction to: Understanding buildings
Understanding buildings (or Architecture for non-architects) is a half-day session looking at the basics of building design; proportions, details and materials. We will work through some of the basic areas of skills and knowledge aimed at less experienced officers and private sector practitioners.
In this session you will:
- Develop an understanding of architectural principles used in the development of a plan
- Develop an understanding of the proportions of architectural typologies including heights of buildings and the approach to the design of the façade
- Develop an understanding of detailing and materials in contemporary architecture
