The Great Hall, Kent College Canterbury

Canterbury

Architect Hazle McCormack Young LLP
Contractor WW Martin

HMY worked with Kent College in Canterbury to build a new Great Hall building, to act as the new focal point of the campus and provide professional quality music and theatre facilities as well as a central hall for assembly and chapel services.

The new hall accommodates up to 600 seated people, but also adapts to a smaller audience of 350 for music and drama performances. The building provides a foyer and gallery space, back of house accommodation including green rooms and a scene dock.

The hall is designed as a naturally ventilated building utilising the below ground ‘labyrinth’ to negate the need for large mechanical air handling plant and air conditioning.
