Urban Design Spring School: Medway’s rejuvenation – planning for design quality

The 2019 Urban Design School will be based in Chatham, a Medway town with a rich military and industrial history, now experiencing housing growth and transformation in its public realm.

This year’s School will be an intensive and immersive mix of small group tutorials led by some of the UK’s leading practitioners, practical design workshops, group presentations and discussions, and inspirational talks. Participants will be masterplanning a site themselves, thereby gaining an insight into the masterplanning process, and gaining practical skills associated with developing a plan.

This is a great opportunity for non-urban-designers, in planning, architecture and other disciplines to develop their place-making skills, their understanding of design ‘in between buildings’ and their ability to assess schemes in urban design terms. For more experienced practitioners it can act as a valuable refresher, helping you refocus on the human experience of places and space.
