Two-day study tour to Bristol and the West

Thursday 26th & Friday 27th September 2019

New for Kent Design – a two day study tour of Bristol, Gloucestershire and Swindon. A chance to see some exciting new developments and hear from their designers and planners and to network with colleagues from all over Kent.

Designing new neighbourhoods is primarily about creating a sense of community and place. How can an infrastructure of shared spaces be created? How can we encourage a sense of civility and neighbourly spirit in new developments, in both urban and rural settings?

We will study the urban environments of the Bristol’s old docks through two ambitious mixed-use housing schemes, conceived through the idea of creating community and place in a heritage context. We will visit a pioneering green development on the edge of the city. On day two we will visit two new rural communities that cater for the growing needs of family life and retirement.
